Protesters demand cancelation of mine concessions

Indigenous people from the Coalition for the Natural Resources Defense and the Law of Ngäbe-Bugle people, closed two lanes of the TransAmerican highway in San Felix on Tuesday.

They were protesting  a meeting between a government committee decided to meet , and a group of representatives of traditional authorities at David , Chiriquí. They promised to continue thye blockage indefinitely

The protesters,  did not recognize the authority of chief Silvia Carrera and the Coordinator and  they asked the government  commission headed by Interior Minister, Jorge Ricardo Fabrega, for the approval in full of article 5 which cancels all existing concessions to domestic and foreign companies for exploration and exploitation of mineral resources and the construction of hydropower projects within the region Ngäbe-Bugle.
