Stay away from beaches warning

Thousands of Panama city residents poised to head for the interior on Easter weekend have received double barreled security warnings.

The expected admonitions  to drive carefully on the crowded highways plus details of extra police and security patrols, have been followed by a warning from SInaproc (The National Civil Protection System) to stay clear of the beaches.

Sinaproc director Arturo Alvarado, on Thursday, April 5 reiterated an earlier  statement: "It is risky to go to the beach" due to waves and high tides that will be  recorded on the Panamanian Pacific. coast.

Alvarado said that Sinaproc would not  rule out "closing  beaches if necessary" to avoid unfortunate events. He urges caution in the use of beaches, and asks citizens to plan other activities.

According to official reports, starting Friday, April 6, it is expected that the tides on the Pacific coast will reached 17.8 feet. Security operations on roads and beaches began on Thursday.
