May 7 day of mourning for former president

Public and private offices will be closed on Monday May 7. declared a day of mourning for  former President Jorge E. Illueca Sibauste.

The funeral service   will be held in the Basilica of Don Bosco at 10: 00 am

The President's Office reported that the decree, which bears the signature of President Ricardo Martinelli and Government Minister, Jorge Ricardo Fabrega, also calls for  three days, with the  national flag flying at half mast

Illueca Sibauste died on Thursday, May 3 aged  93.

 on international law issues. He served as Ambassador to the United Nat4ionsfrom 1976 to 1981, and as Foreign Minister 1981 – 1983.

In1982 he was elected  vice- president and for a few months served as president in 1984 following the president's resignation under pressure from the dictatorship. He is known to have been an outspoken opponent of the 's US School of the Americas which he called "the biggest base for destabilization in Latin America. A Harvard educated lawyer he continued working for the United Nations, particularly on environmental issues during the 1990s
