75% reject Martinelli’s demand for Varela resignation
75.2% of Panama’s population disagrees with President Ricardo Martinelli’s demand for the resignation of Vice President, Juan Carlos Varela.
The figure comes from a survey conducted by the polling firm Unimer for La Prensa that also showed only 17.4% support Martinelli’s demand.. The survey was conducted from Wednesday May 9 to Friday May 11, by telephone, to 620 adults across the country (excluding the province of Darien ) It has a margin of error of 3.9%. This week, Martinelli publicly asked Varela (who is also president of the Panamenista Party), to resign considering that “he does nothing and "boasts" of being opposition.”
Varela replied that he won’t leave office, because he was elected as vice president until June 2014 and is not beholden to the “corrupt Martinelli administration.”
