Panama to rejoin den of thieves

A proposed law to return Panama to the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) is wasting the resources of the people says Vice President Juan Carlos Varela.

The law was approved by the Cabinet Council this week although a prominent plank of the Ricardo Martinelli election campaign was to end Panama’s membership of what he called a “den of thieves.”
 Vice President Juan Carlos Varela said: "I am disappointed with another contradiction of President Ricardo Martinelli and I keep my firm position  that returning to the Parlacen is wasting the resources of our people."
The National Assembly approved a law in December 2009 calling for Panama to exit Parlacen, but the Supreme Court later ruled the move. unconstitutional.

 "When Martinelli ran for president, he promised new leadership for Panama," Varela said. "Like the Majority of Panamanians, I still support exiting.Parlacen"
 The vice president said that by abandoning his campaign promises "is just another politician who puts his own interests above the Panamanian people."
