New electoral judge gets broad approval

The appointment of n Heriberto Araúz Sanchez as the new Electoral Tribunal (TE) judge has received broad approval in Panama.

A professor and Doctor of Laws, Araúz 50, is the sixth judge of the TE since the fall of the military dictatorship in 1990. He was chosen by the majority of the plenary Supreme Court from 45 applicants.

Araúz will replace Gerardo Solis, whose six year term expires November 15
The full Court also chose the current secretary general of the TE, Myrtha Duran Varela, 53 years old, as a substitute judge for Araúz for the next 10 years.
The announcement of both designations was made by the President of the Supreme Court, Alejandro Moncada Luna.
