FREE song books for Carols by Candlelight

By Dylis Jones
The first 10,000 song books for this year’s Carols By Candlelight  seasonal charity event in Casco Viejo are ready and distribution is underway.

The book contains the words in English and Spanish of eight carols, and after each choir completes its 15 minute presentation, the audience gets to wave candles and join in for the singing of a selected song.

The books, like the concert are FREE, and will be distributed through retail outlets churches, schools and community groups, but the organizers, the CanadaPLUS Club, encourage participants , or even those unable to attend, to make a donation of $5 or $10 in return for a decorated souvenir candle.
Additionally there is an opportunity for achieving two seasonal objectives at once by buying extra candles for distribution through community groups and churches to those less fortunate citizens who would like to attend, but would be unable to afford to make their own donation. They can of course go without candles, but that’s at least half the fun, as those who were there last year will attest.
There are 10 performing groups at this year’s event with the Cantus Chorus, largely American and the Venezuela Encanto, adding an international flavor.
The performances in order will be The National Youth Orchestra, The National Ballet, Panama Pacifico Academy, Kings College, Hogar Malabo, Godspell, Cantus Chorus, Venezuelan Encanto, Opera Panama and Coro Rendencion.
The concert, organized by the CanadaPlus Club is aiming to raise funds for Hogar Malambo, , Hospital Santo Tomas, and Casa Brown, a retirement home for indigent Panamanians.
