Partiers delay clean up after Christmas parade
The Christmas Grinch in the form of liquor swigging spectators of the Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 16, added to Panama’s garbage collection woes.
The heavy vehicular traffic in the capital and the seasonal increase in shopping have forced Panama’s garbage authority (AAUD) to rearrange collection schedules.
The authority’s director, Enrique Ho Fernandez, told La Prensa, that 120 runs are made each day, 40% is by the night shift, which runs from 8:00 pm until 3:00 am
Ho Fernandez said ideally half of the journeys should be made by day and hald at night which is a goal they are working towards. But, he said you can safely say that "the city is much better than it was last December."
The recent clean up problem on Calle 50 after the Christmas parade organized by the mayor's office, occurred because the cleanup began too late sis Ho Fernandez.
The parade was delayed and once completed "many people were left on the side of the street listening to music and sipping liquor, which complicated the collection until late in the day..
