City to rent buses to aid government bus snafu

Panama’s public transit crisis took another turn on Friday, April 5 with the city council approving the rental of buses to help bail out the troubled Metro Bus system.

With 16 votes in favor and one against,  Panama City Council approved a proposal by Mayor Roxana Méndez to spend $250,000 to rent buses that will provide free transportation in various areas of the city.
The company providing the service for10 days will be Interbus S.A. Yhe reasoning is that in that time the Metro Bus system will have solved the problems that have led to long waits for passengers, fines for the Mi Bus operating company and multiple promises from the government.
The only councillor who voted against the proposal was the representative of Las Cumbres, Quibian Panay.
