Investigation into Martinelli letter to Venezuelan president elect
AN INTERNAL government investigation has been opened into a letter which was allegedly sent by President Ricardo Martinelli to the President-elect of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
On Monday, April 16 through his Twitter account, the president denied that he had signed the letter. https://www.newsroompanama.com/panama/5546-continuing-bonds-of-friendship-with-venezuela-martinelli.html
Secretary of State Communication Luis Eduardo Camacho confirmed today the start of the investigation to clarify the situation.
The letter appeared on the website of Panama’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama and the website of the Embassy of Venezuela in Panama.
The spokesman stressed that there is an "ongoing investigation" since "what was released was unauthorized and not signed by the president."
"The president is extremely annoyed because his name was used. It was a mistake, but it was serious," said Camacho.
