SPI cop caught in drug bust
A MEMBER of the “elite” police unit (Service of Institutional Protection), that guards the presidential palace, was arrested in a Don Bosco drug bust on Monday July 20.

As there have been similar cases that have occurred in different administrations said the spokesman, President Ricardo Martinelli instructed the SPI director "to strengthen control mechanisms to prevent new cases.".
The president said: "I think that members of the SPI should be voluntarily tested monthly by a polygraph … This is an important security institution and as such it is the case aseverywhere in the world. that there must be mechanisms that allow the cleaning of the institution of bad officers and when they are detected, the entire weight of the law should drop on them."
