Cinta Costera landfill, up $2 million a hectare
ONE HECTARE of landfill on Panama’s Cinta Costera costs $2 million more now than four years ago.
The revelation comes in a La Prensa report that points out that the work has been done by the same Brazilian company Norberto Odebrecht.
For example, the fill that was done as part of Cinta Costera 3 , “the recently opened breakwater known as Pacific View has 6.8 hectares and cost $ 37 million. That is about $ 5.4 million per hectare.
However, the last government spent $9.8 million on a three-hectare landfill for the Yacht and Fishing Club, that's $3.2 million per hectare.
Former ministers of Public Works say the numbers "do not add up” and argue that the $782 million Cinta Costera 3 is "overrun".
