Audit of murder trial files completed

AN AUDIT of the prosecution files covering the murder of a university student has been completed days after the lead prosecutor was sent on four month’s leave.

 

Officials from the First Superior Prosecutors Office of Chiriquí said an audit has been finished in the case of the murder of student Aira Guerra.
The 12-volume file has been corrected, officials said. The audit was carried out by anti-corruption prosecutor Rosa de Contreras.
The murder Investigation has been ongoing for more than seven months and has resulted in five arrest warrants. Four people have beendetained: Rolando Samudio, boyfriend of the student, his uncle Álvaro Samudio and Silverio Guerra Zapata and Edilberto Moreno, who owned a car in which the victim's blood was found. Another suspect, Edwin Oldemar Avila, is currently a fugitive).
Problems with the case, including the disappearance of key pieces of evidence, have resulted in a number of changes being made in the office, including the appointment of a new lead prosecutor.
