Hospital specialists reject road map for new Health Code
The Association of Medical Specialists of Santo Tomas Hospital, has totally rejected the government’s proposed methodology for "discussion and analysis" of the new Health Code.
Julissa Rodriguez, president of the association, said they are in favor of updating the code, but , said it is necessary to create a much more participatory forum and more time to analyze theimportant issue.
At a Monday July 15 press conference she pointed out that changes to other codes in the country have taken up to two years and not two months, as proposed by the current authorities.
Therefor the association has requested the formation of a committee, with the participation of all concerned, in order to obtain a new Health Code for the benefit of the Panamanian population, the doctors said.
The National Negotiating Medical Commission (Comenenal) has already rejected the draft reform of the Sanitary Code which, it says, tends to privatize the health service.
