Panamenistas forecast 30# turn out for primaries
TWO WEEKS before its primary the leadership of the Panameñista party announced that 89 percent of the offices will be contested in the election.
There are 1,200 candidates vying for 711 posts in the Sept. 29 primaries.
Deputy Jose Luis Varela said that he expects 30 percent participation and that the primary would cost less than $1 million.
Varela said that there is no favoritism or cronyism in the primaries, and that the offices that re anot being contested are being reserved for the Partido Popular, which has an alliance with the party.
The PRD and the CD parties have already had their primaries.
