Perceptions of corruption, power abuse, and nepotism
The high levels of perceived corruption, cost overruns and the abuse of power were some of the bad examples set by President Ricardo Martinelli during the last four years says Temistocles Diaz.
Diaz is a founding member of the National Republican Liberal Movement (MOLIRENA),now allied with Martinelli’s Democratic Change party.
He was speaking on Sin Rodeos (Bluntly), a TV program hosted by Flore Mizarachi on Thursday October3,
Asked about Martinelli’s presidency Diaz said: "I think the example has not been good. I would say it started with the President of the Republic, I do not like his example, I do not like his way of exercising power … ".
Diaz said that although Martinelli is a good person, he does not approve of the contract overruns, attacks on institutions, the appointment of family and friends in key positions of the state, among other details.
He said that although he has no proof of the above, the levels of perception of them are very high.
Meanwhile, Diaz, who openly supports the presidential candidacy of Juan Carlos Varela Panameñista, referred to removal proceedings against him within MOLIRENA.
he said that he is skeptical that hecan be expelled and said: "I have not violated anything, theparty has done nothing to back José Domingo Arias [as president], so until that is done by MOLIRENA: “All members are free. We are in a democratic country and everyone can have an opinion."
