Attorney General Attacks Electoral Code Article

PANAMA’S Attorney General Ana Belfon, says that Article 238 of the Electoral Code is  unconstitutional and violates the American Convention of Human Rights.

The article prevents candidates who participated in primaries from being nominated by political parties or running as an independent.

She gave her opinion following the constitutional claim against the article by former Democratic Change (CD) presidential candidate Roberto Ruiz Diaz.
Belfon argues that this violates Article 17 of the policy letter stating hat the rights and guarantees should be considered minimum and non-exclusive.
