Doctors claim breach of agreement, ready to walk again
ANOTHER STRIKE of medical staff could be looming over what doctors claim is a breach of agreements that ended the last walk out that lasted more than a month.
Claiming that the government has reneged on the agreement that ended the recent long strike of The National Medical Negotiating Commission (Comenenal) warned Friday, November 15, that it could call a 48-work stoppage over the government's decision to discount the salaries of some specialists.
Coordinator Domingo Moreno said the government pledged not to discount salaries as part of the deal to end a recent medical strike, but has failed to abide by the agreement. He said that medical specialists in both Panama City and the interior have reported their wages have been discounted.
Moreno said that a final decision will be discussed Saturday during a general assembly of the medical unions. He added that doctors are complying with measures to make up appointments missed during the work stoppage.
He called the actions of the government "arbitrary."
