Martinelli defends CD data base, VP candidate, ex-Foreign Minister

President Ricardo Martinelli was in defense mode on Monday, February 3, at the end of a meeting with diplomatic representatives.

First off Martinelli defended the creation of a database by the campaign of CD presidential candidate José Domingo Arias that contained data about voters such as their party membership, where they worked, names of siblings and relatives and whether they were part of any social assistance programs. The program was created in Florida and was available on a website to any CD candidate.

"All parties have that right," said Martinelli.

Then he turned to the issue of his wife, Marta Linares
He also said that, who is the CD vice presidential candidate, does not have to stop her duties as first lady.
"It is not an official position," said Martinelli.
He did not refer to a previous statement downplaying the role of the VP as “nothing but a spare wheel.”
On the departure of Fernando Núñez Fábrega as chancellor, Martinelli said the official was unable to continue traveling due to his age. He said the resignation was planned. Fabrega is 71
