Election smear campaigns despicable – Archbishop

POLITICAL SMEAR campaigns designed to win votes were condemned by theArchbishop of Panama on Saturday February 15.


José Domingo Ulloa, speaking at a celebration. of the anniversary of the first catholic Diocese on the continent, held at The Roberto Duran Arena, called for the attention of the political class, and for a transparent and respectful campaign path to the May 4 elections. 

He did it at the end of the Eucharistic XLIV appointment of the Catholic Church, held “We condemn the smear campaigns that seek to win votes based on denigrating the opponentThose who use it a and those who promote it on social networks are despicable" said the prelate, referring to dirty attacks that have circulated through electronic media in recent days.

He also sent a message toVvoters: “We forget that we are voters who, according to our standards and assessments , choose our rulers and authorities and they reflect who we are as a society ( … ) now more than ever we need to recover ethics and morality , not only in politics but in sports , family, society and all human endeavor. "

The event , which was attended by Cardinal Antonio Cañizares , representative of Pope Francisco , and by presidential candidates Juan Carlos Navarro, Democratic Revolutionary Party ,and Juan Carlos Varela , (Panameñista and Popular parties)oth Navarro amd Varela endorsed the words of Ulloa.

They agreed in stating they expect the ruling Democratic Change (CD) party and Nationalist Republican Liberal Movement (Molirena)_to comply with the ethical pact signed last Friday.
