Journalists uniting to bring transparency to Panama elections

JOURNALISTS are uniting to try to bring some transparency to Panama’s upcoming election, widely feared to become a potential cauldron of dirty tricks and manipulation.

A conference titled "Care for your vote" is being held to promote a transparent election in May.

It is being organized by the International Center for Journalists and the Latin American Journalism Center and is focused on using digital tools to strengthen investigative journalism and provide platforms that can serve as a database where voters can find information about the candidates and their connections.
It will consist of three workshops that will examine the use of new technologies, the handling of large amounts of data and the providing of digital platforms.
There will also be a platform where citizens may make allegations of fraud in the electoral process.
WORKSHOPS
Several workshops will be developed as part of the project. From February 20-22 there will be a training session for students and NGOs at the University of the Isthmus on Justo Arosemena Avenue.
It is aimed at young people who are interested in political issues and how to share information.
The second workshop on February 21-22.is aimed at members of civil society.
