Ex-First Lady says husband will have no role if Arias wins

FORMER First Lady Marta Martinelli is on the Panama campaign trail as a vice-presidential candidate trying to explain why she took so long to step down

According to Martinelli, she doesn't want anyone to think she took advantage of her position to help her political candidacy.

She also commented that, prior to the nomination, she never expected to run, but in "life there are challenges and decisions." It was for that reason that she accepted the nomination reports La Prensa
Martinelli said that her nomination was in no way an attempt at immediate presidential re-election, saying she and her husband are two different people.
She emphasized that she is running for vice president, and that Jose Domingo Arias would be the leader of the country if he wins the May election.
"What we're asking for is a repeat of the government because we have done a good job," she said.
She also denied that President Ricardo Martinelli would have any role in the next government, saying that all the responsibility will fall on Arias.
