Panama schools get election long weekend
CLASSROOMS across Panama will be closed on Friday May 2, and Monday May 5 to allow for the setting up pf 2,500 polling stations in schools, for Sunday’s elections.
The announcement came Wednesday from Education Minister Lucy Molinar, able for a few minutes to focus on something other than the nationwide strike of schoolteachers which was entering its seventh day. Molinar was accompanied by Electoral Tribunal Judge Erasmo Pinilla
She also called on election officials and voters to treat the schools with respect while using them and not to cause any damage or leave behind any waste.
"We do not want dirty or damaged schools," she said.
