Passengers evacuated as Metro subway disrupted
WHILE the country was hit by a major power blackout on Monday May 12, Panamas Metro suffered its own unrelated problem when service was disrupted due to electrical problems at the station under construction at Betania.
Metro Secretary General Roberto Roy said the people traveling on the Metro were evacuated.
Following the order for evacuation, large numbers of people could be seen walking near the Metro stations in Puebo Nuevo an, San Miguelito.
People complained about the lack of information and the inconvenience of losing service during their morning commute.
Users who tried to enter the Metro station in Albrook had to leave because it was closed due to a lack of electricity.
Luis Sánchez, one of the users who could not enter the station, said he was heading to work at Santo Tomás Hospital.
Sánchez said he thought the system had emergency generators to deal with issues such as today's, but apparently that isn't the case.
