Panama power restored after countrywide blackout
POWER was restored to100 percent of Etesa customers by early afternoon on Monday, May 12 after 3-4 hour blackouts knocked across the country says a company press release.
Etesa confirmed that the event that caused the blackout originated in the area of Changuinola, Bocas del Toro at 8:04 a.m.
By 9:47 a.m.683 MW were restored, or 70 percent of the country's capacity of 975 MW. Technicians are investigating the origin of the fault.
Earlier,Natural Gas Fenosa said the blackout, was due to a "situation" in an Etesa transmission line.
The outage was not the cause of the problems reported in the Panama Metro on Monday morning.
Meanwhile with traffic lights out across the city, Panama’s rush hour traffic woes worsened.
