Panama soccer11 off to tackle 5-times World Champions
AFTER a 1-1 tie in a friendly game with Serbia, on Saturday, May 31, Panama’s National soccer team will travel to Brazil to face the team favored to win the upcoming World Cup.
They will take on Brazil the five-time World Cup champions on Tuesday, June 3.
Coach Hernán Darío Gómez, who was making his first appearance on the sidelines with the national team said that Panama had good and difficult moments against Serbia, but he was pleased with the result.
"The opponent was difficult," he said. "It wasimportant to see a good result against them," he said.
Serbia opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a goal by Branislav Ivanovic, while Panama equalized in the 60th minute with a goal by Gabriel Gómez.
Panama ended the match with 10 men after the expulsion of Carlos Rodríguez for a double yellow card.
Gómez said that he is still working on the team's strategy and style.
After a superb performance in the early rounds of the World Cup Qualifying, including twice defeating the heavily favored Mexican side, the boys in red narrowly missed gaining a place in the World Cup in Rio de Janerio this month.
