TE seeking evidence of government spending to support candidate

THE ELECTORAL Tribunal (TE) began an in depth investigation of “social projects” in the municipality of Rio de Jesus, in the province of Veraguas, on Friday June 20 and continued through Saturday, with more work ahead.

Twelve Tribunal officials are following up  on a challenge to the election of CD deputy Tito Carlos Afu (7-1 Tables circuit), an alleged use of government funds for handouts during the election campaign.

A TE spokesmen reported that they will continue working on finding more evidence as part of the challenge to Afú.

Humberto Sanchez, mayor of Rio de Jesus, said that during 2013 and 2014 the  municipality received at least $7.5 million from  the Ministry of Economy and Finance, headed by  of Frank De Lima. Through transfers to four deputies, including Afu.
