$1.5 billion plan for Panama water and sewage
A PRE-ELECTION promise to ensure that 100 percent of the population has access to water and sewer service was high on the agenda for the first cabinet meeting of Panama’s new administration on Wednesday, July 2.
The meeting, presided over by President Juan Carlos Varela was scheduled to be held in Martí¬n Luther King School in San Miguelito.
Approval of his ambitious health project imitative will cost an estimated $1.5 billion.
The proposal is part of the “commitment to Panama” Varela signed on April 30, a few days before the May 4 election, along with Milton Henríquez, president of the Partido Popular and Isabel Saint Malo, his vice president.
It highlights an “immediate action plan” on 10 specific points “to combat the major problems affecting the population.”
Yesterday he took action on two of the points, freezing the prices of 22 basic food items and issuing a request for proposals for an urban renewal project in Colón, reports La Prensa.
