Another “best yet” for Canada Day celebration
By Margot Thomas
WHILE scoresof thousands of Panamanians breathed a sigh of relief and cheered the July 1 inauguration of a new president, Canadians and friends from many countries joined Canadian Ambassador Sylvia Cesaratto and embassy staff to celebrate Canada Day at the Miramar Intercontinental Hotel.
The musical entertainment was provided by renowned local pianist Marrio Olivotto who accompanied opera singer and Copa flight attendant, Yassuri Rodriguez, when she sang the country’s national anthem With only 48 hours notice she filled in for a missing performer, ann mater d the music and the word in both official languages, English and French,
Canadian artist Germain Courchesne not only exhibited some of his latest works, but also donated a painting as one of the multiple prizes for a tombola to raise money for the staging of Carols By Candlelight/Luces de Navidad, the CanadaPLUS club’s annual charity event in December. The winner of the prize was able to choose any of the paintings on display.
Other supporters were Felipe Motta, Miramar Intercontinental, Rincon Aleman, Spanish Panama and Jungle Explorers, Lake Gatun ,and the CanadaPLUS Club, which organized the event
The Courchesne painting was won by, Melanie Holmes.
The evening was rated by many that attended “the best yet” CanadaPLUS event. It’s a phase I seem to hear at almost every one of their presntations, fom Dinner Theatres, to exploration trips or, like this one celebrating national events. The next bigee will be Canadian Thanksgiving in October.
