Famed jazz trumpeter dies at 103
NEW ORLEANS, United States, (AP) -. Centenerian jazz musician Lionel Ferbos died at his home in New Orleans, on Saturday, July 19 . He had celebrated his 103rd birthday on Thursday, July 17
Regina Dillings a family friend, told Associated Press that the trumpeter died Saturday morning surrounded by his family and friends.
Ferbos played around New Orleans and its suburbs for decades. His ability to read music made him one of the most sought after jazz musicians and he played in parks, schools, churches, dance halls and even in prisons. He also played in every New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival until last year, and even played at his 102nd birthday celebration.
It is believed that Ferbos was the oldest musician still playing jazz frequently.
