Petition against immunity,corruption
AN ONLINE PETITION to end immunity and stamp out corruption in Panama has already received over 400 signatures as it travels through social media.
To participate, individuals must sign the letter (on the site Avaaz.org, which had millions of supporters worldwide, and has played a significant role in lobbying governments and institutions involved in human rights abuses.
The letter, which will then be sent to the three branches of government (executive, legislative and judicial), notes that “the undersigned, citizens of the Republic of Panama, protest against immunity and ask that the facts be investigated of the outgoing government’s corruption and waste of state resources that occurred during the last election campaign.”
It stresses that those who adhere to this campaign also expect authorities to bring to account those involved and that state resources are recovered.
“The country’s problems are not solved by changing only the players, but the need for action to prevent these acts from happening again is taken,” says the letter
It also requests that the government establish an anti-corruption agenda for the next five years.
