Colombia-Panama tax haven talks continue
TALKS aimed at resolving the tug of war over Panama’s upcoming listing as a tax haven by Colombia, will continue without interruption says Foreign Minister Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado
While lawyers and business groups on the sidelines are listing their demands for tough retaliatory measured de Saint Malo is closeted with Colombia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Angela Holguin, “We are convinced that we will reach an agreement,” Holguin told a Friday October 17 news conference in Panama,
De Saint Malo de Alvarado said that they failed to reach an agreement but said they will do so before the seven day deadline given by Panama expires
“What is important today is that we must emphasize that it was a good conversation. We realize that we are in a difficult situation for both but we will find an agreement,” said De Saint Malo.
The Vice President said that Juan Carlos Varela and President Santos had spoken and she also noted that trade ministers from both countries have started talks on trade issues.
