Remembering the victims of October 23 tragedy
A SERIES of activities are planned for Thursday October 23 commemorate the 8th anniversary of the La Cresta bus fire that in which 18 people were incinerated and others badly burned on Oct. 23, 2006. No relatives or survivors have received sompensation.
The activities include the painting of blue hearts on Avenida Martin Sosa and a mass.
David Ramirez, president of the October 23 Movement, said the mass would be held at 7 a.m. at the Don Bosco Basilica followed by a march to La Cresta, where the tragedy took place.
The Office of the First Lady will deliver 18 baskets to newborns at the Children’s Hospital and the Saint Michael the Archangel Hospital in honor of the victims.
Ramirez asked the country to observe a minute of silence at 2:42 p.m., the time of the accident.
He also said that the October 23 Movement is encouraging the National Assembly to approve an initiative establishing the fourth week of October as road safety week.
The Mi Bus company, responsible for the operation of the Metro Bus system, will make detours around the La Cresta area due to the events.
