“Stunned” Martinelli and CD leaders booed

EX-PRESIDENT Ricardo Martinelli and accompanying CD figureheads were booed during a tour in support of CD candidate Carlos Afu in a by-election brought on by the discovery that Afu used over $4.5 million of government funds to support his campaign for the May 4 election.

His “victory” was overturned by the Electoral Tribunal.
Members of the crowd near to Martinelli chanted: “What if I tell you you’re corrupt.”
Meanwhile the former president said he was stunned” by the scandal of the seizure of the $9 million bank accounts of the former head of National Assistance Program (PAN ), Rafael Guardia Jaen
“I did not realize what was happening,” he said, and added that if investigations determine Guardia’s responsibility in this case the full weight of the law should be applied.
He made no mention of three other leading Martinelli insiders facing corruption allegations two of them discovered after revelations of purchase of high end homes not commensurate with their salaries “If you want to clean up the country, close the PAN” he said to local media, in the province of Los Santos.
The legal actions against Guardia Jaén stem from a complaint against him for alleged offenses of embezzlement and corruption after detecting a $1.7 million overrun of a PAN purchase of thousands of tons of rice this year
