CD candidate downplays legal challenge

CD CANDIDATE Manuel Cohen has shrugged off the legal challenge seeking to prevent him from participating in the December 21 election in Chitré that has been presented by the Partido Popular (PP).

Through his lawyer, Silvio Guerra, Cohen said that the Tribunal Electoral (TE) has already determined the new election rules and ended the appeals period reports La Prensa
Guerra called the action of the PP a “legal eyesore that is a perverse tribute to the lack of positive electoral law.”
He said that “we understand the action, but the search for a disqualification cannot be justified and will distort the legal universe and our laws trampling elementary rules of objective law.”
He added that the TE has already made a final judgment about the 6-1 circuit election.
“Any claim outside that context would depart from the law,” he said.
The PP filed a legal appeal November 27 seeking to disqualify Cohen and fellow CD candidate Héctor Aparicio in the 9-2 circuit of Veraguas.
