PAN CRIME INVESTIGATION: Former boss promises cooperation

THE FORMER head of Panama’s National Assistance Program (PAN), Giacomo Tamburrelli, faced the Second Anti-Corruption prosecutor on Monday, December 15, to undergo investigation of crimes against public administration after signing a contract for $45 million for the purchase of dehydrated food.

Upon arrival Tamburrelli (in office 2009-2012) told the media that he is innocent and said he would cooperate with investigations being conducted by the prosecutor reports La Prensa.
“I will do everything that corresponds with the law and face the charges on the record,” he said.
He noted that at the end of the inquiry he will communicate his statements to the media He was accompanied by his lawyer Gonzalo Moncada.
The lawyer said his client will provide all necessary documentation to prove his innocence.
Tamburrelli served as director of PAN until August 2012, when he was replaced by Rafael Guardia Jaén, now behind bars in La Gran Joya jail
The former official was very close to former President Martinelli and served as secretary general of the Democratic Change party. He also headed the National Mortgage Bank.
