Firearms seizures cut Colon killings

SOME 312 firearms and three tons of drugs were seized by police during operations in Colon in 2014 and homicides in the second half of the year were reduced says Atlantic coast, chief of police Carlos Rumbo.

The commissioner said that the discovery of the weapons was aided by the cooperation of the public “Thanks to the police actions and community support we seized 312 guns. This has made the crime rate in the province of Colón a decrease in the second half of the year compared to the previous period,” he said.
During the year there were 72 homicides, five more than in 2013.
The most violent months were March (14 homicides) and January (10 homicides), December was one of the least violent months
