OFF THE CUFF: New approach at Tocumen International

THE NEW Administration at Panama’s Tocumen International Airport is looking to a $30 million boost to rental income as it puts out tenders for store spaces. Fifteen will be tendered in the first six weeks of 2015 and another 25 throughout the year.

The process is part of a new business plan that aims to increase the number of passengers entering the country through the implementation of new flight routes and other strategies.
The public tendering process is a far cry from the insider sweetheart deals that marked the previous administration’s activities from larcenous public parking to plane re-fueling concessions.
