Former revenue director in preventive detention
AFTER 14 HOURS of interrogation by the Fourth Anti-Corruption Prosecutor on Monday, May 25, Luis Cucalón former head of the Directorate General of Revenue (DGI), was moved to the Transitional System of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) to spend his first night in preventive detention.
He is being questioned regarding the collection agency Cobranzas del Istmo, hired to collect back taxes. He will return to face the prosecutor at 11 am Tuesday. “This will continue. This is a matter of evidence. This record is quite long, and a lot of things, will come out like names of former officials, said his lawyer, Victor Chen .
He said the prosecutor Ruth Morcillo told him “there are about about 50 more questions.”
Earlier, Chen said : “Maybe there will be a confrontation with Christopher Salerno, and not only with Mr. Salerno, but with many more who will be mentioned …” reports La Prensa
He said that Cucalón, who arrived at the Avesa building at about 8:00 am, was “nervous”.
“I think that for the good of the country, things have to clear it while he tells who all theplayers are because I think you need to look at from inside to outside and above, without fear,” he said.
Cobranzas del Istmo, S.A. obtained a contract from the government of Ricardo to manage the collection of delinquent taxes.
The operator of the company, Christopher Salerno, said in another investigation into the same case that he had given Cucalón $5.8 million in commissions.
