$400,000 found in accused judges bank account

OVER $400,000 has been discovered in a bank account of Supreme Court Judge, Victor Benavides, facing charges in the National Assembly of crimes against the government and against freedom and sexual integrity.

Deputy Jorge Alberto Rosas, chosen to act as prosecutor of the judge, on Tuesday, June 2, asked the chairman of the subcommittee of guarantees, Valdés Carrasquillato to set a hearing date for the judicial review of the fixed deposit made at the National Bank of Panama (BNP) on February 27, 2012, pertaining to the magistrate .
Sources close to the case reported that among the steps that Rosas wants the judges Hector Valdés Carrasquilla, Ana Matilde Gomez and Katleen Levy to authorize to take, is the seizure of the account containing $ 400,295.
La Prensa sources said the hearing will be held on Friday June 5.
Rosas did not rule out seizing other accounts in other banks, but said he must first determine whether they exist or not. He said the prosecution is collecting documents in different locations.
On the allegations of the commission of crimes against sexual freedom and integrity (pedophilia) Rosas said that during the diligence performed in the Santiago Public Jail last week, the witness, Vicente Caballero, gave the names of some people . “We must now try to locate them to testify. At the moment, they have not been located,” he said.
