Banking system threatened by false intervention note

THE BANKING SUPERINTENDENCY  has issued a denial that it is   intervening in the operations of Multicredit Bank, formerly known as Multibank.

“That information is incorrect and false. There are no initiatives to intervene in either Multicredit or any other bank,” said Superintendency General Secretary Gustavo Villa.

It was reported a false note with the logo of the entity is being circulated which is claiming that intervention is coming. Villa announced that he will file a complaint Monday with the Attorney General, since the note “threatens the stability and security of the banking system” reports La Prensa.

On June 5, the superintendency ordered the suspension of operations of Banco Universal due to irregularities and violations of banking rules. Villa reiterated that the situation is an isolated issue and not a threat to the remainder of the banking sector.
