Assembly posts not for corruption suspects – Movin

LAWMAKERS who could be involved in alleged corruption scandals that have surfaced in the public arena should not be allowed to participate as candidates for president and vice president of the National Assembly or chair committees says The Independent Movement (Movin).

The request was made through a statement, as July 1 approaches , when an election is held to renew the leading figures of the legislature reports La Prensa.
The group urged that these deputies involved in allegations of public corruption in the handling of circuit funding , as well as in managing National Assistance Program support and funds transferred to community boards must conform .
With the implementation of this measure a clear message would be sent to civil society and the general public “about the rule of law and commitment to the integrity and strengthening of institutions”, said a statement from the organization on Sunday June 21.
Movin reiterated a request that each member of the Assembly publish a “detailed report” on the use of $25,000 delivered from December 2014.
If not, then the Comptroller General of the Republic should guarantee the right to free access to public information in the case, the statement said.
