Road deaths, gang killings, start month

THE WEEKEND prior to Panama’s independence celebrations was marred by bloodshed on the highways and in the streets as bad driving and  gang warfare continued.

A 49-year-old man  was killed on the outskirts of Colon on Saturday evening, October 31. He was attempting to cross the highway when a small truck and a taxi collided and slid into him. Both vehicles left the scene  of the accident.

A few hours later. At 2:40 am Sunday, a speeding taxi returning from PanamaCIty went out of control  on the Transismica Highway in the community of El Jaguito, in the district of Antón, Cocle. It somersaulted and ended up against a tree.

The 56-year-old driver was killed and three adult  passengers and a girl 14 were seriously injured.

The same day in San Migelito there was one gang killing, one attempted killing, three shootings and  a string of robberies, reports El Siglo.
