Key water treatment plant in state of collapse
Guillermo Torres who heads Panama’s Water and Sewer Authority told business leaders on Friday, November 22 that the water treatment plant in Chilibre which supplies the needs of much of the capital city “has collapsed.”
He made the statement during a meeting at the headquarters of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (Apede).
According to Torres, the constant failures in the plant are because “it can no longer function”. In spite of $39. million invested by other administrations in a plant that did not increase its capacity.
Meanwhile, he added they will begin to give the attention it requires.and he is working on a project for the improvement of the water treatment plant, with an investment of over $20 to $25 million
And he will soon submit complaints for alleged irregularities committed in the past administration, in relation to an elevator that was purchased without measuring the size of the pit and now does not fit, so it is a loss.
