Insect invasion at Tocumen control tower

 AN INVASION of insects in the  control tower at Tocumen International Airport, led to a brief abandonment on  Saturday, December 5  

The Civil Aeronautics Authority said the incident took place at 7:30 p.m. The insects came into the room where the air traffic controllers work through the ceiling. Operations were suspended due to the insects creating a distraction.

“Insects sought refuge in the clothing of the controllers, which led to the momentary suspension of operations,” said the agency.

No aircraft were in danger, the agency stressed.

The area was fumigated and cleaned.

According to a preliminary investigations, bedbugs, crickets and cockroaches “of great size” entered the building through an air conditioner vent and “used the area to massively reproduce.” reports La Prensa

Aviation Director Alfredo Fonseca Mora ordered a “thorough” review of the facilities to avoid a repetition of the situation.

Fonseca Mora,  called it an “unusual situation” and said it was the first time something like this has happened,
