EXPAT, American citizen, actor, inspirational writer, broadcaster philosopher and standup comedian, Jerry Gillies, died in Panama City on Saturday December 12. He had been battling illness for several years.
Jerry had returned a few days before from what he termed an enforced “pilgrimage” to Costa Rica to maintain his Panama residency.
He died on the day of the Carols By Candlelight concert organized by the CanadaPLUS [Club] Foundation of which he was an active member, having joined before he made the move to Panama. He joyfully gave his time and talents to the Club’s fund raising activities and, played lead roles in two of the group’s Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre series. His early life in the US was in broadcasting, and he traveled the world giving life style seminars. His last public appearance was a sparkling performance as a standup comic at the Canadian Thanksgiving Celebration in October.
Earlier in the year he had produced a digital version of his book Money Love which in print form sold 2 million copies. The digital version, Money Love 3.0 was already on the way to success and up to his death he had been planning a media promotional tour.
Jerry, books were more oriented to inspirational message’s than simply making money, and could be summarized with the phrase he coined: “What you do is more important than how much you make, and how you feel about it is more important than what you do.
Jerry felt good about what he did.
