Christmas food basket remains stable
THE BASIC food basket currently averages $157.52 in supermarkets in the capital city, virtually the same cost as last December, according to Panama’s Consumer Protection Agency.
The price has dropped by $1.12 compared to December 2014.
The basket includes ham, turkey, chicken, meat, eggs, vegetables fruits and other products such as mayonnaise and rice.
When he took office, President Juan Carlos Varela introduced price controls. Lower fuel costs have also helped to keep food prices down
