Deputies license plates pulled after cocaine discovery

A DAY AFTER police found a kilo of cocaine in a vehicle carrying replicates  of license plates belonging to  A CD Deputy, the National Assembly moved  to withdraw all official plates of deputies and alternates to regularize their handling.

Juan Poveda. Poveda confirmed that the plates has been given to a supporter of his campaign.

In making the decision to remove the plates from all his colleagues, National Assembly President Rubén De León said that the institution “does not tolerate any criminal act,” reports La Prensa

He warned members that the plates were only for the use of them and their families, and are not transferable.

He requested the members of all parties deliver the registration numbers of the vehicle using theplates. He also said the matter involving Poveda will be investigated.

“Issuing a duplicate plate is illegal and we will conduct an investigation to determine those responsible,” he said.

De León also scheduled  a meeting with President Juan Carlos Varela about the topic.

Last month an employee of the National Assembly was charged with money laundering after she was captured in a vehicle with $854,000.
