Panama favored company corruption arrest

PANAMA’S LINKS to corrupted countries continue to get exposed. Last year the president of Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht was arrested and jailed, now the head of the other major player in the construction of Metro Line 1 and 2 has been arrested in Spain.
Miguel Jurado, president of FCC Construction, was arrested in Madrid Monday as part of an anti-corruption operation.
FCC has been involved in numerous projects in Panama, including line 1 of the Metro. It is also part of the consortium that won the tender for line 2 of the transport system.
At the same time, the Spanish company is responsible for the construction of the troubled Hospital City project in Ancón.
According to Spanish media, the executive has been linked to $27 million in fraud related to public contracts. He was one of 13 people arrested Monday morning. He was appointed president in September 2014.
