Water and Social Security will not be privatized -Cortizo
President Laurentino Cortizo confirmed on Thursday, December 26, that he has no plans to privatize the Institute of NationalAcqueducts and Sewers (Idaan) and the Social Security Fund (CSS) .
He explained that About Idaan Cortizo said that his administration is working on its restructuring and that this process advances “step by step”, but does not contemplate “privatization.”
The process includes investment in existing systems to improve the distribution of drinking water, leak repair and customer service. According to Idaan figures, leaks in the system account for 40% of drinking water losses.
The plan also includes investing in the training and updating of personnel and incorporating “suitable Panamanian professionals and technicians to guarantee the proper operation of the systems,” said a statement from the Secretary of State Communication.
CSS Audit
Cortizo said that he is waiting for the audit by the Comptroller General of the Republic of the financial statements of the CSS programs that and he will then appoint a commission to evaluate the results.
He reiterated its commitment to convene a national dialogue by the CSS with the participation of all sectors.
Since 2012, according to the Ministry of Communication there are no known results of the financial statements of the CSS, which are audited by the Comptroller.
Social Security is responsible for the coverage of 75% of the Panamanian population, in 81 health facilities throughout the country.
